MMS Read and Ride Bikes

The Melissa Middle School is racing into the future with the addition of three new Read and Ride Bikes that have been placed in the MMS library. Using the generous donation given to the school by HEB, Nurse Sarah Howard and Librarian Cari Montgomery, worked together to find a way to combine physical health and literacy.

These bikes aim to inspire students to positively engage both their minds and bodies through fitness and reading. The hope is that they will also strengthen the school community by sparking positive conversations about great books and staying active among students and staff.

To track the progress the bikes are making on the students' learning and physical health, students will log their rides with information such as: how long they rode, what book they read, and how many pages they read while riding the bike. At the conclusion of their ride, students will be expected to write a one-sentence response of what they read on the bike. The Read and Ride Bikes will be available for use shortly after students return from Spring Break.

Congratulations to the three students who won the bike naming contest. These students' bike name suggestions were chosen to be the names of the three new bikes. These students also got the opportunity to test out the Read and Ride Bikes on Friday, March 2nd.
