Chief Chris Fontana

Melissa Independent School District proudly announces the appointment of Chris Fontana as its Chief of Police as he was officially sworn in at the Board Meeting on Monday, March 18, 2024. Chief Fontana, a seasoned law enforcement veteran with an impressive history of dedicated service spanning 16 years at the Collin County Sheriff's Office, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.

With a solid foundation in organizational leadership from the FBI National Academy 283, a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University, and multiple certifications including Master Peace Officer, Fontana has consistently demonstrated his visionary leadership and analytical thinking throughout his tenure. For the past three years, Chief Fontana has served as the Assistant Chief Deputy with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, overseeing a $73M budget and spearheading innovative crime prevention strategies that have significantly enhanced public safety. Chief Fontana’s career showcases a range of pivotal roles including Patrol Officer, Criminal Investigator, Sergeant, Lieutenant specializing in crimes against children, Captain of Criminal Investigations, and Hostage Negotiator Team Leader for five years. Additionally, he served as the Director of the North Texas Fusion Center and is a certified Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCLOE) instructor.

Chief Fontana is highly decorated being recognized by many for his commitment and dedication to his work. His honors include the Meritorious Performance Award, Sheriff’s Accommodation, Certified Forensic Interviewer of the Year, and 2016 Child Advocate of the Year. His diverse experiences reflect his unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of integrity, transparency, and accountability.

As Melissa ISD warmly welcomes Chief Fontana, the district also extends heartfelt appreciation to Chief Kelly Davidson for his ten years of dedicated service. Chief Davidson's leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence have played a pivotal role in shaping the Melissa ISD Police Department.

During the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Fontana on Monday, March 18, 2024, Melissa ISD took the opportunity to honor Chief Davidson with a retirement gift.

Reflecting on Chief Davidson's contributions, Superintendent Keith Murphy remarked, "Chief Kelly Davidson has been an invaluable asset to the Melissa ISD Police Department, our community, and most importantly, our students. His steadfast dedication, leadership, and commitment to safety have left a significant impact on our district. We extend our deepest gratitude for his years of service and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement."
