Campus closed to visitors on April 8, 2024

As we prepare for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse, we want to share some reminders and details to help ensure the safety and well-being of our students. With the excitement surrounding this event, a significant number of visitors are expected in the DFW area. In coordination with our Melissa ISD Police Department, we have established the following safety measures to maintain a secure learning environment for our students:

  • Closed to Visitors: On April 8, 2024, all school campus facilities will be closed to visitors. Note: The participants and spectators visiting for the UIL band competition taking place at Melissa High School will be directed to the Fine Arts facilities.

  • Campus Parking Lots: One concern we anticipate is the possibility of individuals from outside our community attempting to utilize our facilities for parking in order to view the eclipse. We want to emphasize that our campus parking lots and grounds are reserved for staff and registered students only. Unauthorized vehicles parked on school premises will be subject to towing at the owner's expense.

  • Trespassing Regulations: As per Texas Education Code ยง37.107, trespassing on school grounds is strictly prohibited. We ask that all parents and visitors adhere to this regulation and refrain from accessing school premises without proper authorization. For any essential visits, please ensure you check in at the front office upon arrival.

  • Special Programs Transportation: Students enrolled in programs that are bussed to other campuses during the school day will remain at their respective campuses.

  • Checking Students Out: Between 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., students will not be allowed to be signed out. If students need to be signed out for any reason, they must be signed out before noon.

  • Absences: As a district, Melissa ISD always encourages parents to make the best choice for their family. Absences or early dismissals will be recorded in accordance with the district attendance policy. Please be reminded that Melissa ISD students may receive a total of three (3) excused absences, by parent/guardian note, each school year. For additional details, please visit the Melissa ISD Report an Absence page.

Our goal is to provide our Cardinals with a memorable and enriching educational experience during the eclipse in a safe learning environment. To learn more, visit Melissa ISD Solar Eclipse Information.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in prioritizing the safety and well-being of our students during this exciting event. If you have any questions, please reach out to your campus.
